レーザー結晶を利用した近赤外発光Nd3+添加ペロブスカイト型シンチレータの開発

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究は、Nd3+イオンの禁制遷移を利用した近赤外発光型ペロブスカイト結晶シンチレータを開発を目的とし、サンプルの合成から、光学特性 (透過率、反射率、屈折率、蛍光波長、蛍光寿命、量子収率)及び放射線応答特性評価(シンチレーション発光波長、減衰時定数、発光量、温度特性、エネルギー応答の線形性、熱ルミネッセンス:TSL、光刺激ルミネッセンス:OSL)を統合的に行うことで、広線量率範囲において、近赤外発光による線量評価が可能な材料の開発を目指した。実際の実験では、フローティングゾーン(FZ)法により作製したNd添加YAlO3, (Y, Gd)AlO3, (Y, Lu)AlO3, (Lu, Gd)AlO3, GdAlO3, LuAlO3結晶の各種光学及び放射線応答特性の組成依存性について検証し、近赤外シンチレータとしての組成最適化を行った。その結果、Nd添加(Y, Lu)AlO3が80%以上の高い透過率と高い近赤外蛍光強度、10-10^5 mSv/hrの線量率範囲における優れた線量応答性を示すことを確認した。Luの含有は、密度や実行原子番号の増大を促し、X線に対する阻止能が増大させるため、結果的に発光強度の増大が生じたと考えられる。一方、当該母材料にGdが含有された場合においては、Nd3+の禁制遷移による近赤外発光強度が低下する挙動が見られた。これらは、Gd含有による密度や実行原子番号が増加される一方で、放射線照射により生成された電子及び正孔の発光中心であるNd3+への輸送効率が低下したと考えられる。特に、GdはGd3+による4f-4f禁制遷移吸収が生じるため、上記輸送効率を低下させた要因の一つであると考察される。本研究は、当初目標とした近赤外シンチレータの性能を満たすとともに、近赤外シンチレータの設計指針にも参考となる多くの知見が得られたと言え、その学術的意義は大きい。
