Outline of Final Research Achievements |
We investigated the near-field properties of several coupled plasmonic systems using photoemission electron microscropy (PEEM). The PEEM measurements allow to obtain near-field mapping and spectral response of plasmonic nanostructures. With this technique we revealed near-field plasmon coupling in one dimensional gold nanochains and observed the energy transport along the nanochians. We also explored plasmon hybridization in gold dolmen nanostructures. Especially, the hybridized bonding and anti-bonding plasmon modes were explored in near field, and the dramatic evolution of near field intensity distribution between bonding and anti-bonding modes was observed. Furthermore, we established a time-resolved PEEM setup to investigate the dynamics of plasmon resonances, and we experimentally demonstrated for the first time that the quadrupole mode in Au nanoblocks has longer dephasing time than that of the dipole mode.
