Outline of Final Research Achievements

The digestive cancer patients undergo laparotomy and/or thoracotomy were engaged in pre-operative rehabilitation. 113 patients participated in this study. Programs were consisted of conventional respiratory physical therapy, the aerobic exercises and muscle-strengthening exercises. They received supervised exercises program at the hospital stay, then they received home-based exercises. The maximal oxygen consumption, the maximal intensity and six minutes walking distance significantly improved. The respiratory complication was only one case. The frequency of complications between obesities (BMI > 25) and non-obesities showed no significant differences. Pre-operative exercises might prevent the complications.
