Outline of Final Research Achievements

Taking a case of Sri Lankan highway development projects, this study investigates the relationship between resettlers’ perception and resettlement policies.
Through our analysis of household survey conducted before completion of the project, we confirmed that resettlement in STDP was successful in that many affected people were satisfied with the project and improved their perceptions toward the project. We found that the overall satisfaction to the project was partly due to the existence of resettlers who were satisfied with the staffs and process of Land Acquisition and Resettlement Committee (LARC), which is regarded as successful mechanism for redressing their grievances.
