Research Abstract |
In this research, 3 subjects were prepared. 1. Research on the internal and external programs of upper secondary education for the mentally retarded; Materials gathered from foreign countries were classified into 3 classes, and the most recent movements in U.S.A. and U.S.S.R. were mainly discussed. Data pertaining to Japan were collected from 201 schools for the mentally retarded. They were classified into conditions of populations, organizations of classes, and curriculum approaches. Modification of educational programs should be necessary since subjects to have special education had been going on increasing year after year. 2. Research on conditions of the mentally retarded who graduated from special schools; We got data from 322 schools to analyze (1) conditions in which they are placed and (2) aftercare systems of special schools. We could find next results. Many graduates are placed in sheltered workshop and trainingcenter for adults. They often lost their chance for employment. Special schools for the mentally retarded lack of guidance teachers and funds for guidance clinic. 3. Development of reeducation programs for the mentally retarded who graduated from special schools; We planned new reeducation programs and guided a few youth who could not go out into the world after graduating from their special schools. Some of undesirable factors were found in their family, society, and our plans. In the future, those problems should be investigated to improve the lifelong education and aftercare programs for the mentally retarded.
