Research Abstract

The aim of study is, in short, to catch the Ki-i Peninsula as a whole and to make it clear where it placed in the history of Japan.
In the field of archaeology, we got new materials in every era since the Paleolithic era, defined the culture keeping in contact with East and West Japan, and first summarized them.
In the field of the Ancient and the Medieval Ages, with the research of folklore, we are defining the characteristics of the religious service of their community. The research of newly found Mahaprajnaparamita-sutra(600 vol.)showed the cultural spread and historical facts. On the spread of many sects of Buddhism, we could understand the historical situations in every area.
On the marine transportation, few documents are left unexpectedly, however, the study on the expensive average was made public. We are studying about special relations that the Ki-i-han got things Korean through the agency of the Tsushima-han, and will find many new facts. On the fishery, as the east side had not been so studied, we mainly researched it, and the real facts are fairly clear. We were surprised to find that the documents about the forestry had disappeared, and didn't get enough result. We offered a new interpretation especially on the castle stone walls.
On producing textiles in modern times, we researched Matsusaka-cotton, as contrasted with Kishu-flannel, and explained the developments on both sides. We researched how things really stood during the Pacific War, especially the large-scale air raid on Wakayama city with the documents of U.S.Air Force.
On architecture, we surveyed the shrines, the temples, and houses over a wide area, and could show clearly the local colour and historical transition in this district.
We are planning to publish a series of books about detailed reports.
