Research Abstract

The problem on the demand and supply of water resources is recently becoming stringent. This trend also appears in field irrigation system in which it is necessary to restudy the planning and designing methods corresponding to the quantitative application of water and the water cost. In this research project, the following studies were conducted with the objective of contributing to the effective use of water resources.
1. The assessment on soil moisture and energy enviroment factors for plant growth and the evaluation of evapotranspiration were investigated. The estimation model for evapotranspiration with the three-dimensional architecture of crop canopy was proposed and discussed.
2. The experiments on the soil water movement and on crop response with irrigation were conducted under the controlled enviromental conditions. The results show that responses of leaf temperature to light radiation vary characteristically with soil water levels and soil types. Also, water retentivity and unsaturated conductivity indexes of soil affecting crop growth were defined and these availability for practical use were discussed.
3. The relation between leaf temperature and soil water potential was investigated with the infrared thermometry for measuring leaf temperature of crop. An irrigation scheduling method using the infrared thermometry was established based on the results of investigations.
4. The soil water balance model was proposed as the function of factors of rainfall, evapotranspiration, soil water retentivity and unsaturated conductivity. With the model ,the optimized irrigation scheduling were obtained for differrent objective functions.
