Research Abstract |
YC-1 was developed as a photocoagulator which can coagulate deep retinal layer and choroid without damaging of retinal nerve fiver layer. The characteristic of thermal mode of YC-2, which was developed mainly as a cutter, is basically equal to YC-1. YC-1 was successful in destroying one case of choroidal black tumor and suppressed several cases of neovascular macropathy. YC-1 is now under refinement to make the spot size smaller for safer application to the macular area. Clinical application of YC-2 has been very successful so far. Over one hundred and fifty cases of aftercataract were successfuly cut without any sevear complications. Iridotomy with YC-2 was also done successfuly for the secondary glaucoma with pupilaly block and primary closed angle glaucoma. Convind use of YC-1 with argon laser increased success rate in iridotomy. Animal experiments of YC-2 revealed that the shock wave of YC-2 should be carefuly avoided with smaller energy setting to prevent corneal endothelial damage. Long time follow up of side effects and further refindment for easier and more precise aming of YC-2 will be carried out in future.
