Research Abstract |
The main object of this research object is to analyze the errors made by Chinese learners of Japanese as a ground work for the teaching of Japanese as a foreign language. Members of the project are researchers specializing in the fields of Chinese linguistics, Japanese linguistics, and theoretical linguistics, each with some experience in teaching Japanese to Chinese. The basic procedures of the research are as follows. 1) Collection of errors 2) Classification of errors: Errors can be classified into two types; those found among all Japanese learners and those characteristic of Chinese speakers. The present project focuses on this latter type of errors. 3) Analysis of the errors: The errors are analyzed in contrastive linguistic terms to pin down their causes. Possible remedies are also devised. The basic orientation of this project is practical and applicational but in view of the fact that applied study must presuppose general linguistic studies, the results and the methods of theoretical linguistics are also untilezed in the analyses, with positive results.
