Research Abstract |
So called "Age of Region" has brought forth the many researches on the Japanese Regionalism. "Chi-iki kaihatsu no Kenkyu" "Chiho-Jichi to Chi-iki" and so on. But there is few studies on the Regionalism in foreign country. Most advanced researches on Regionalism is that of France, especially the age of French Revolution and the Second Empire in France. We must compare the result of the studies on Japanese Regionalism with French one. On the French Regionalism, there is two point that we have to take notice of. First, the relation of centralism and provincialism. This problem is the political confrontation in the government by central bureaucracy or provincial autonomy. In the French Revolution, the centralism penetrated into the province. But, in the Second Empire, the provincialism appeared especially in the Midi, and growthed the power. Another point is the economic problem, in the Third Republic, France government has begun the planification of economic development. In this case, the problem is the dissolution of regional disparities. In the France, government principle lays emphasis on Democracy (the tradition of French Revolution), making much prize of provincial demands. So that, the plan of regional government was born.
