Research Abstract |
The objective of the present research work is to develop basic methodologies for automation of design, manufacturing and production management in machine shops, which are the bases to realize an intelligenced CIM (Computer Integrated Manufacturing) system for machine products. The results are summarized as follows. A. Investigation of knowledge required for CIM system The knowledge required for the CIM system was investigated based on the information processing in design, manufacturing and production management of machine products. A basic constitution of an intelligenced CIM system was proposed taking into account of the role of knowledge. B. Product modeling system A product modeling system was newly developed to construct and to modify the product model which is a common data base of the intelligenced CIM system. The product model includes both the geometric information and the technological information of the machine products. C. Input system for colored hand-drawn sketches An input system was developed to recognize the part information and to construct the part model directly from the colored hand-drawn sketches. The system has capability to recognize both the geometries and the technological information of the machine parts. D. Kinematic simulation of machine products A system was developed to simulate the kinematic movements of machine products based on the product model proposed here. The system is able to calculate three-dimensional kinematic movements of individual parts and to evaluate the forces and torques acting on the joints between the parts. E. Knowledge based process planning system A knowledge based process planning system was developed based on the product model. The knowledge of experienced process planners is described by the production rules, and is utilized in generation of the suitable machining sequences and the sequences of machine tools.
