Research Abstract |
The objicts of this research are:(1) the deveropement of system and the model electric power system which are to be combined for the experiment,(2) the experimental study on the stabilization of electrical power system by using the developed model system,(3) the clarification of problems which are presented in the actual implementation of SMES in real electrical power systems, such as the overall chacteristics of power systems which include generators and loads as well as the SMES, abnormal behaviors which are accompanied with the short circuit of power lines and the higher hamonics generated by SMES. The obtained results are given as follows. (1) The SMES system has been developed which is composed of a 0.5MJ superconducting magnet, two sets of GTO converters which are controlled by the digital control system for the conversion of power between dc and ac and an active filter for the elimination of higher hamonics. (2) The model power transmission system rated 460V/10kVA has been developed whose characteristics of frequency response are in good agreement from several Hz to 1000 Hz with a 500kV/2000MVA/280km transmission system. (3) The simultaneous active (P) and reactive (Q) power control in the four quodrant P-Q domain has been verified for charging and discharging of SMES. The stabilization of electrical power system by SMES has been verified by using the P-Q control of SMES, which is well consistent with the simulation. The Tramsnitted power has been increased as much as 1.6 of the power without SMES. Furthermore, the optimal position of SMES, the coordinative control of SMES with AVR, the increase of reactive power caused by the connection of SMES and the detection method of active filter, and so on are the results which can be obtained by experiments.
