Research Abstract |
In recent years, the characteristics of dam construction projects is to increase the scale as well as the number of dams being constructed. Increasing uncertainty factors often excite suspicions of unbalance occurring during design and construction of dams. Therefore, thoughtful considerations are required to the soundness of design and construction, and to safe performance during operation of dams. The object of this investigation is to build an integrated system for design, analysis and safety assessment of dams. As the basis of realizing such system, firstly, computer codes and data for numerical analyses and digitized measuring data for dams are arranged into a kind of database. Secondly, a practical system for design and analysis of dams is built to utilize those codes and data effectively in the form of multi-user/multitask. This system constitutes a network by a super-mini-computer ( UNIX O/S with japanese language facilities ) as a leading machine, several terminals using personal computers, and a BSC sub-system connecting with a data processing center. Finally, with the use of same system, a practical system for safety assessment of dams is built, judging from the measuring data and the predicting procedures such as Kalman filtering approach. Although this system is a prototype and the database arrangement used in this investigation is associated with only a limited area of codes and data, we still believe that this investigation will contribute in the development of damengineering.
