| Research Abstract |
1. Two series of chromotropic copper( <II> ) chelates, i.e.,[Cu <(daco)_2> ] <X_2> (daco = 1,5-diazacyclooctane) which show peculiar thermochromism in solid state and [Cu( <beta> -diketonate)(diamine)]X which are solvatochromic in organic solvents, were studied by means of spectral and ESR techniques. A number of data on the donor-acceptor interactions in these systems were derived from the ESR measurements.
2. Structural influences on (a) the electron transfer reactions of various biacridinium and biquinolinium salts, which occur under the influence of light or high pressure, and (b) the reactivity of cobalt-mesotetraphenylporphyrin with nucleophilic reagents, were studied using ESR technique. The effects of heat, light and pressure on the homolytic cleavage of C-C bonds were also studied, using bis(benzofuranonyl) and related compounds.
3. Black phosphorus was found to form intercalation compounds with iodine and cesium. Their structures and conductivity characteristics were determined. A number of highly conducting charge-transfer complexes with a new acceptor, AzaTCNQ, were also synthesized and studied. The possibility of proton-electron interactions in certain organic molecules, in which intramolecular proton transfer can occur, was also discussed about.
