Research Abstract |
The measurement of charged fusion products lost from a reacting plasma has been considered to be useful to get the velocity distributions of ions, and the information of the single-particle confinement of high energy particles. Especially the measurement of escaping alpha particles from a burning plasma will be one of the key issues for the research on the alpha heating and the wall load. In the present work, we have investigated the response and detection efficiencies of various particle detectors for 14 MeV neutrons. The absolute response functions of Silicon solid State Detectors, a CsI (Tl) scintillation detector, and CR-39 track detectors are measured and compared with results of calculation from nuclear reaction cross sections, emitting particle spectra and their ranges. We have also measured 3 MeV proton and 1 MeV triton energy spectra, produced from DD reaction in a deuterium plasma of JIPP T-IIU. For that purpose, a probe with Si-SSD was specially designed and was attached to the vacuum vessel of JIPP T-IIU. A data taking system for time evolution of energy spectra was developed. Ion temperatures and deuteron velocity distributions are expected to be obtained from those spectra, after the improvement of the collimator and x-ray shield.
