Research Abstract |
For identification of vapour species involved in high temperature metallugical reaction system, a transpiration-mass spectrometry system has been developed, whereby sampling of reaction gasous species is being done by use of supersonic molecular beam using nozzle/skimmer orifices and gaseous species are analysed by mass spectrometry. In this project, the present system has been upgraded by the following improvements and various operational data have been obtained of this improved system; (1)Incorporation of chopper system; this chopper system is incorporated into the present system which improves sensitivity and detectability of sampled gases. (2)Improvement of pumping system and sampling system; these have been done by use of high capacity pump for housing chamber and by proper designing of skimmer shape and geometry, respectively. (3)Measurement of mass separation coefficient and sulphide vapour pressures and species; mass separation coefficients have been measured by inert gas mixtures of known compositions and the latter by combined transpiration technique. (5)The improved apparatus can measure reaction species upto 1000 C and in range of 10 ppm to 1 percent.
