Research Abstract |
The idiotypes, antigenic determinants unique to the particular immunoglobulin molecules, serve as genetic markers of antibodies and involves in the immune regulations. Therefore, the studies of idiotypes of autoantibodies may give us useful informations concerning on the mechanisms of specific autoantibody production. In the present study, poly and monoclonal anti-idiotypic antibodies to autoantibodies to the SSB/La antigen were prepared. The anti-SSB/La antibodies were fractionated in the narrow ranges by the isoelectrofocusing indicating the production by the restricted B-cell clones. The cross reactive idiotypes of anti-SSB/La autoantibodies were rare and oberved in only 4 out of 30 patients with anti-SSB/La. The results of the present study indicate that prolonged antigenic stimulation may play an important role in production of this autoantibody.
