Research Abstract |
The research items planned to perform the theoretical and experimental studies are as follows: (1) To develop a new ship form of large wake gain utilizing the Under Keel Stern (UKS) form concept. (2) To investigate the effectiveness of the propeller with fixed blades, etc. (3) To study the possibility of improving propulsive efficiency by placing vortex generators ahead of propeller. (4) To investigate the possibility of improving propulsive efficiency by giving proper variations to frame line shape. (5) By investigating the methods of calculation of frictional resistance with consideration of the chages in frame line shape, the relationship between the frictional resistance and the frame lines is clarified. (6) It is found that the tandem propeller is very effective in decreasing vibration exciting force. (7) As a result of investigation of flow field induced by vortex generators, a possibility to control the flow field by them is found, yielding high propulsive efficiency. (8) A new method is proposed to predict the effective wake distribution from the nominal one. This is one of the essential prerequisite matters to develop a ship form with additional apparatus of high propulsive efficiency.
