Research Abstract

Iron ore sinter occupy a principal portion and higher than 70% of overall iron burden used in a blast farnace, it has been windely recognized that the quality of sinter governs stable operation and energy consumption rate of blast furnace. An advanced technology of sintering process which may cope with an increase in the ratio of fine ores and diversification of feed ore sources is urgently required to develop taking consideration of worldwide ore resoures in future. Under such industrial requirement, the present research group has developed and constructed a sintering simulator system based on the results obtained by a proto-type one. The simulator consists of gas flow and its controle unit, sintering bed rector, and data acquisition and processing unit. The system is functioned by fully automatic operation. As a feature of the system, it equips an unit for rapid cooling of the sintering bed by helium gas in order to inspect the structual and mineralogical change of sample bed in the course of sintering.
By using the simulator, the following results were obtained; 1) Mathematical model is described relevant to transport phenomena occured at coke combustion and assimilation zones of sintering process. 2) Quasi-granulation technology proposed by the present investigators, namely "duplex mini-pellets granulation method" leads to obtain high quality sinter for blast furnace burden. 3) Relation between combustion rate of coke with various existing states and conversion ratio of nitrogen oxide generated from nitrogen in coke is clarified quantitatively. 4) Stractural and minerarogical changes occured in the course of sintering were investigated by using EPMA, image analyser, DTA and TG and so on. Then design of duplex mini-pellet was proposed to meet to the sinter quality for blast furnace.
This sintering simulator proved to be applied as a substantial apparatus for grasping various phenomena which occur in high temperature zone of sintering process. Less
