Research Abstract |
1. We have developed a tracer-type current meter which can be used in a boring hole. when a solution with different specific resistance from groundwater's is put in the boring hole it is carried by the groundwater flow. Therefore, the velocity and the direction of the groundwater flow are known by measuring the change of voltages between a center terminal and each of 12 terminals on the circle. 2. To investigate the mechanism of a drainage system in a bottomland of 1-order basin, a field observation were carried out. 47 observation wells were installed for measuring groundwater levels and the velocity and the direction of the groundwater flow in the bottomland were measured with the current meter built as a trial. The results are as follows: (1) The velocities of the groundwater flow are in 5-18 cm/day. (2) Most of rainwater is drained not through the soil matrix but through the pipe network which is mainly laid along the boundary between deposit and bedrock. 3. To observe and analyze the behavior of groundwater, we have designed a simple computer system which is composed of a tablet as a input device from recording charts, technical computer (HP Model 16) and output devices (a printer and a plotter). Using the system, we can obtain some kinds of hydrological graphs such as groundwater level map, overlandflow hydrograph, hydraulic head field map and so forth.
