Research Abstract |
The research for this grant was conducted over a three year period. In the first year (fiscal year Showa 60) the researchers collected material related to their fields and classified the information. In the second year (fiscal year Showa 61) while conducting additional field research, each researcher clarified the various busshi and the development of the busshi soshiki, while examining their backgroud from various standpoints such as political and social history. In the third and final year (fiscal year Showa 62), aside from additional field research, materials were collectively arranged and an overall survey was made. Each researcher put together a report on his results. Mr. Sakai researched documents regarding busshi of the Asuka period. Mr. Tanaka investigated the development of official bussho of the 8th century to the jiin kobo after the 9th century. Mr. Shimizu examined the breakdown of the jiin kobo and the establishment of the bussho of the 11th century from religious and sociological standpoints. Mr. Miyamoto surveyed the works in Shiga Prefecture of the Inpa and Enpa from the Heian through the Kamakura periods and while introducting new materials, investigated the differences in the styles of the schools. Ms. Fujisawa researched the religious background of provincial Buddhist images which were made in areas other than Nara and Kyoto from the 8th to the 10th century and actual circumstances of those busshi through both documents and works. Mr. Saito did research from the new standpoint of how the influence of the busshi from each school spread to provincial areas after the Kamakura period and how they had the opportunity to produce works. Mr. Nedachi clarified the genealogies of the many busshi which had been unclear through the examination of many documents about the To-ji no Daibusshishoku.
