Research Abstract |
A new theory of rock deformability based on the crack theory is presented, and practical procedures for estimation of in-situ rock deformability from scanline survey, seismic exploration and joint roughness investigation is presented. As an application of the new theory, a series of experimental studies on the elastic moduli of rock mass is performed. From reasonable agreement between experimental values and theoretical ones, it is concluded that the theory proposed has a promise to estimate rock deformability. A new technique named hemispherical ended borehole technique is presented to measure the complete state of in-situ rock stress in a single borehole.
