Research Abstract |
Correlation between concentration of organic solvents in the air and concentration of their metabolites in the urine was examined. From above results, regression equation and their confidence intervals were calculated. The urinary metabolites corresponding TLV of organic solvents were estimated from the regression equation as follows; hippuric acid of toluene metabolite was 2.35 g/g creat., m-methylhyppuric acid of m-xylene metabolite was 2.05 g/g creat., total trichlorocompound of trichloroethylene metabolite was 334 mg/g creat., and phenol in phenol conjugates of phenol metabolites was 251 mg/g creat. Concentration of organic solvent which can be discriminated exposure from non exposure, using hippuric acid or phenol conjugates was estimated to be 45 ppm of toluene or 2.4 ppm of phenol, respectively. Human biological exposure indices from Commission of European Communities and Documentation of Biological Exposure Indices(1986-1987) from ACGIH were translated into Japanese. And urinary metabolite concentration corresponding TLV of solvent concentration (benzene and hexane etc.) were estimated from references and validity was discussed. Concentration of urinary metabolites corrected with creatinine was decided to be av ilable for biological monitoring. Total trichlorocompounds in the urine were studied for storage as follows;urine was frozen and kept -20゜C, or urine was spotted onto filterpaper and dried in a cold room, resulting in amounts of trichlorocompound suffered no markedly change for 7-10 days by both methods.
