| Research Abstract |
This study attempts to exmine the mental health conditions of 1)retired persons due to their age limit,2)persons who are (0 years of age or older. and 3)those familu aides who are providing care for their aged members. We suppose these populations area"high-risk"groups of mental and emotional disorders.However,each expected ratio of neuroses and depression of the retired,the elderly,and the family aides is rather low, 16.6%,13.4%,21,1% respectively,as compared with the expected ratio of the general populations e.g.28.6%(Tokyo Wards),20.6%(Ichikawa city).Even if we focus on the more than 60 years old population in our comparison between them,the ratios of them are not higher,The burnout ratio 24.4%, of the family aides for aged members is also not particulaly higher than those popylations such as nures with 31.7%,doctors,16.0% and teachers, 41.2% Yet,the family aides for aged mempers with ADL(feeding and excretion,etc.)difficulties show the high ratio range from 36 to 67% of burnout syn

drome.Furthermore,even the elderly with minor ADL difficulties indecate a high ratio around 30% who are suffering from neurosis and depression.Besides.retired persons of the expected higher ratios of neurosis and depression are the following:rhose Who are 1)over75 yearl old,2)company's service with short terms(10-19years)before retirement, 3)having an unpleasant job after retirement age,4)without job due to family problems,and 5)now hired at the company not affiliated with the former host company.The psycho-social background of those who are low life-morale,neurotic and depressive symptoms is significantly associated with difficulties of daily living skills in the retired,the elderly,and the family alded for aged mambers.These difficulties tend to signficantly influence on increasing daily hassles for these popylation.If they continue to cope with those daily hassles in an ineffective way,they tend to experience their helplessness and then increase sevelal other symptoms.On the contrary,symptoms tend to reduced in those persons with strong support networks and a lot of activities for enjoying their lives.
