Research Abstract |
1. The aim and method of this study is to investigate the tendency among Workers toward conservatism due to the levelling and embourgeoisement of their life under the system of large scale industry. In order to inqucre into this trend, We have selected the Compayg H. in Ibaraki Pref, in which about six thousands men were employed and producedd electrical wire and cable From them 311 employees were finally in terviewed. 2. The findings of this research are as follows: i) A tendency that the higher theireducational background, job and income, the more achievement oriented were their attitudes toward work was found. ii) The positive attitude, hence loyalty towards the compang was found among employees who were elder in age, graduated from secondary school, and engeged in the lower white-collar jobs, orin blue-collarjobs. iii) The same would be said as to the attitudes Towards the union activity. iv) The higher grdde white-collar employees have evaluated themselves positively in contrast to the ower grade white-collar employees. The former identified them. selves to the upper-middle as compared the latters identification to lower-middle stratum. Their class identification was also divided in the same way etween middle and working classes. v) With regard to politics, the supporters of Japan Social-Lst Party were found rather among higher status and income groups. This suggests that the embourgeoisement does not always accompany the conservatqation of consciousness among workers. It is hoped to investigate more precisely the structural contexts behird the socalled couservatiqation of conscious ness among workers under the system of large-scale indastry in Japan.
