Research Abstract |
This research project intends to find out origins of Japan's post-WWII Conservative regime and identify some characteristics its political leadership. From a historical point of view, two conservative parties (Liberal and Progressive Parties) became a center of conservative politics, and some leaders of the parties were already known as "Liberalists" even in the 1930's and 1940's.Our concern is to see the continuity and discontinuity of the pre-and post-WWII Japanese politics. We have chosen four case studies here: 1)A Study on the Fifteen Years War and Responsibility for the war; 2)Japan's China Policy after WWII; 3)Patterns of Conservative Leadership at a Local Level: Sizuoka Prefecture and Election Results,1960-86; 4)Role of mass Media and Politics:N.Hasegawa and T.Baba. By looking at various issues (war, foreign policy, local politics and mass media),we hope we can examine our subject more or less systematically. Also we have a plan to publish our work in the near future.
