Research Abstract |
Preparation of several semiconducting oxide films of TiO_2, SrTiO_3, BaTiO_3 and Fe_2O_3 has been attempted using a sol-gel method which enables us to obtain a large size of homoheneous coating film. TiO_2 films thus obtained were found to show photocurrent as high as a single crystal. This was attributed to its large specific surface area which is inherent in gel state. These films also have many surface states due to its large surface area. Owing to this, it was revealed that the surface states mediate the charge transfer for evolving oxygen gas and the formation of H_2O_2 is significantly related to anodic reaction. SrTiO_3 and BaTiO_3 did not show photocurrent so high as TiO_2. Fe_2O_3 had visible light response ( >580 nm).
