Research Abstract |
The globalization of post-war economied does not necessarily mean solely the inctrase of worls trade. It also means the increased multinationalization of fierms. We first selected 500 firms satisrying the three conditions(1)-(3), from transnational enterprises in the world as of 1981:(1) the firm had 25% or more of voting equity of manufacturing or mining companiesd in at least three countries; (2) the firm had a least 5% of its consolidated saled ot assets attributable to foreign investments; (3) the firm had sl least $75 million sales originating from foreign manufacturing operations. Then we tried to transform all the original data to those in terms of 1981 dollar. The simple ordering of the dollar termed consolidated sales of the transnational enterprises and the dollar termed GNP s of countries is showm in one table. There appears 60 countries and 40 transnational enterprises in this table. The consolibated sales, 13,668 million dollar of United Technologied Corporation which is the 40th transnational enterprises in the table almost equals the GNP 13,920 million dollar of Cuba which is the 60th country in the table. The above fact indicates that economic activities of transnational enterprises have eminently inctrased as well as world trade. This trend is expected to be steadily followed in the fduture. We the classigied 500 companies into countries to obtain the countrywise rations of foreign based output to the total exports of the countries.
