Research Abstract |
1. Some 800 specimens of Lepidoziaceae, Jungermanniales, Schistochilaceae, etc. of the New caledonian Hepaticae were studied and 90 species were identified; they included 40 endemic species and 8 new ones. It was proved that New Caledonia is, as to the hepatic flora, more closely related to the Malay Archipelago than to Australia and New Zealand. 2. Some 600 specimens belonging to miscellaneous families of the Hepaticae from Seram Island, Indonesia, Were studied and 117 species were identified. They suggested that Seram is, as to the hepatic flora, more closely related to New Guinea than to the Malay Archipelago; among 117 species 75 were known also from New Guinea, and some species here recorded had been regarded as endemic to New Guinea -- they are Bazzania cadens, Telaranea trisetosa, Metahygrobiella macgregorii, Radula vanzantenii etc. 3. Oil bodies of 30 species of the Hepaticae from New Caledonia and Fiji were studied and reported. 4. Calypogeia fusca belonging to the subgenus Caracoma was found in New Caledonia. The subgenus Caracoma was proved to be more closely related to Metacalypogeia than to Calypogeia, and a new combination Metacalypogeia Fusca was proposed.
