Research Abstract |
Surface temperature distributions were measured nonintrusively by using the infrared camera at a real time. Measurements were made along the windward, leeward, and mid-meridian rays of the bent biconic AOTV (Aeroassisted Orbital Transfer Vehicle). Measured distributions patterns are displayed on the monitor by using pseudo colors and then data are stored on floppy discs. The angle of attack was varied from -8 degrees to +8 degrees. Mach number of uniform flow is 8. The Reynolds number is of the order of 10^7/m. We can see the characteristics of the temperature distributions at the leeward side (back face) of the body. The high temperature region is developed locally at the backbone, which shows a remarkable plateau. The shape is like an arrow. This phenomenon can be seen clearly at higher angle of attack. It is shown that the distribution patterns are correlated strongly with the separation-reattachment of flow in hypersonic flow. However, we should investigate the correlation in detail in order to discuss that quantitatively.
