Research Abstract |
Catamaran ship has twin hulls. They are connected by the strength deck, i.e,the connecting deck. The connecting deck will be often impacted by the surface of the waves due to the ship motions in fully loaded conditions. In this research, some parametric experiments were carried out to investigate the effects of the rigidity of the connecting deck on the impact pressure. The results indicated that the Chung's experimental formula had given the biggest value. This was the one when the connecting deck was perfectly rigid. And A new method to estimate the dynamic response of the connecting deck under the impact pressure was developed. A comparison was made with experimental values. The results showed that the new method yielded good accuracy in safety side and in order to estimate it more correctly, we need the more information of the damping coefficients in higher modes of the vibrations of the connecting deck.
