Research Abstract |
IT IS REPORTED THAT THE SHORT-CHAIN FATTY ACIDS STIMULATE THE PANCREATIC EXOCRINE SECRETION IN SHEEP. HOWEVER, IT IS UNCLEAR WHETHER THIS EFFECT PLAYS PHYSIOLOGICAL ROLE IN CONTROL OF PANCREATIC SECRETION. THE PRESENT STUDY WAS UNDERTAKEN TO CLARIFY THE RESPONSE OF PANCREATIC EXOCRINE SECRETION TO SHORTCHAIN FATTY ACIDS UNDER THE PHYSIOLOGICAL CONDITION IN SHEEP. 1.SHORT-CHAIN FATTY ACIDS IN BLOOD WERE ANALYZED BY THE HEAD-GAS-SPACE GAS CHROMATOGRAPHY. 2.THE CONCENTRATION OF ACETATE IN PLASMA 2hrs AFTER FEEDING WAS 2458<plus-minus>149unol/1. 3.INTRAVENOUS INFUSION OF Na-ACETATE(pH:7.4) AT THE RATE OF 12.5, 25, 50 AND 75 <micro> mol/kg.min RESULTED IN INCREASED RESPONSE OF PANCREATIC EXOCRINE SECRETION, THOUGH THE ACTETATE CONCENTRATION IN PLASMA DURING INFUSION PERIOD WAS LOWER THAN THE VALUE AFTER FEEDING IN EVERY ADMINISTRATION RATES. 4.THE RESPONSE OF PANCREATIC SECRETION WAS INCREASED AS INCREASING NUMBER OF CARBON OF SHORT-CHAIN FATTY ACID. 5.THE PANCREATIC RESPONSE TO THE INTRAVENOUS ADMINISTRATION OF CCK-8 WITH INTRAVENOUS INFUSION OF ACETATE WAS LESS THAN THAT WITHOUT INFUSION. IN CONTRAST, THE RESPONSE TO SECRETIN WAS BIGGER WITH ACETATE INFUSION THAN WITHOUT ONE. 6.A MARKED INHIBITION OF PANCREATIC EXOCRINE SECRETION APPEARED AFTER THE STIMULATION BY INTRAVENOUS INJECTION OF BUTYRATE. 7.THE SECRETORY EFFECT OF HCO_3 INTO PANCREATIC JUICE WAS SECRETIN > CCK-8 <similar equal> BUTYRATE. 8.THE ADMINISTRATION OF SHORT-CHAIN FATTY ACIDS INTO THE DIFFERENT SITE, INTRARUMINALLY, INTRADUODENALLY OR INTRAVENOUSLY RESULTED IN DIFFERENT RESPONSES OF PANCREATIC EXOCRINE SECRETION.
