Research Abstract

A new measurement method for detection of penicillin residues in animal samples by penicillin sensor using penicillinase immobilized on pH electrode has been developed. The following results were obtained.
1. Penicillin-G was most large response in the mV on the enzyme electrode.
2. The electrode response time was in the region of 3 min and the response to penicillin concentration was linear within the range of 6.25 to 2000<micrn>g/ml. The minimum measurable penicillin-G concentration was 6.25<micrn>g/ml.
3. The buffer capacity of the medium influenced the sensitivity of the electrode. At low buffer capacity (0.005 M) the sensitivity of the enzyme electrode to penicillin-G was very high, but the sensitivity of small changes in buffer capacity was relatively large.
4. The new probe had a lifetime of about 2 months.
5. The new penicillin analyzer was shown to be applicable to the rapid assay of peniciliin-G residued in milk and cattle kidney tissues.
