Research Abstract |
Puerariae Flos, the flowers of Pueraria lobata, is an important oriental crude drug used to ameliorate crapulence. Its extract has a promotive action on alcholic metabolism. To reveal the active substance(s), we engaged in the studies on the constitutents of Puerariae Flos. We obtained isoflavonoids (PF-IF), triterpenoidal saponins (PF-SP) and tryptophan derivative (PF-P) and elucidated their chemical structures. Furthermore, these compounds were shown to have the following pharmacological activities. As regards various pharmacological actions upon alchol-administration PF-P -- Depression of a rise of blood glucose PF-IF -- Decrease effect of blood ethanol and acetoaldehyde values and suppression effect of BUN value PF-SP -- Suppression effect of TG, BUN values As regards liver sickness PF-SP, PF-IF -- Suppression effect of a rise of GPT against hypercholesterolemia model PF-SP -- Suppression effect of a rise of GOT value against CCl_4-induced model Consequently, Puerariae Flos was regarded to be effective for undesirable phenomenon induced by alchol administration. The ingredients, PF-P, PF-IF and PF-SP will be desired to develop into a new natural medicine.
