Research Abstract |
The subject of inverstigation in this season was concentrated on the "Temple of Nero" prea. and both of an arhcaeological and a philological study were proceeded. In the eastern area adjoining the Sacred Road,it was confirned that the peristyle had been along the Sacred Road, and the stone floor paved by hewn slate had been extended till the north boundary of the temple area. In the thick redium many remains were gained. The ostraca,of which contents were the matter concerning religion and commerce, belong to the lare 7th and early 8th century A.D.. The biggest shaft which is cut through the rock floor, was filled with fragmentary crocodile mummy. The hieratic part of geaffiti of the entrance wall of the "Hathor Temple" was deciphered. It was concerned about god sogek, and quitely coincided with the discovery of the crocodile mummy. During the course of our investigation it has become elearer that the cult of Sobek continued and prevailed in Graeco-Roman period. Maybe the god Sogek is connected with navigation of the Nile.
