Research Abstract |
To investigate the initial process and the detailed potential energy surfece of the one-way photoisomerization of aromatic olefins in the excited states and in the form of cation radical as well as the substituent effect on the reactivity of the cation radical with molecular oxygen we performed the following experiments. 1. Picosecond emission spectroscopic investigation for one-way isomerization around the single bond between the aromatic and olefinic moieties of anthracenylethylenes in the singlet excited state in flat membrane as well as in fluid solutions. 2. Nanosecond laser photolysis of anthrylethylenes in flat membrane as well as in fluid solutions to investigate the detailed potential energy surface of one-way isomerization in the excited triplet state. 3. Determination of the spin density of aromatic olefins to shed light on the factors governing the reactivity of the olefin radical cations with molecular oxygen as well as on the effect of substituent on the efficiency of one-way isomerization of aromatic olefins in the form of cation radical.
