Research Abstract |
Small-scale scientific meetings have been organized to review and discuss on progresses on x-ray laser researches in Japan. Present status on x-ray laser research in Japan is summarized as follows. 1. Extensive facilities required to start experiments on x-ray lasers are becoming available. 2. Evidences for soft x-ray amplification in laser produced plasmas have been obtained at Osaka University and at other laboratories. 3. Demonstration of large gain is required to produce coherent soft x-ray radiation at a high power. 4. Techniques for producing tunable coherent XUV radiation have been established. 5. Ultrashort pulse and ultrahigh-peak power laser has been developed at Tokyo University. Studies on interaction of ultrahigh optical field with matter will be made. 6. Theoretical understandings on atomic processes in high density plasma are required to be developed. 7. Short wavelength free electron laser may be developed by using high brightness synchrotron facility under development.
