Research Abstract |
The aim of this project is to survey the New Zealand pastoral industry which is one of the most developed one in the world, from socio-economic and technological viewpoints, and to contribute to improve animal husbandry in Japan. The team published "The structure of dairy industry in New Zealand" in 1987 based on the results of 1985 survey, and publishes "The structure of beef cattle industry in New Zealand" in 1990 based on the 1988 survey. The latter includes the following chapters; The position of New Zealand beef in the world market; The natural setting of the South Island and land use and its changes in New Zealand; The change of economic policy and the New Zealand beef industry; The current status and the trend of New Zealand sheep and beef farming; The types and trends of sheep and beef farms; Beef cattle breeds and genetic improvement in New Zealand; The management and feeding of beef cattle in New Zealand; The technology of grassland production in beef cattle production regions observed through farm survey; and The extension systems of agricultural technology observed through farm survey.
