Research Abstract |
This project supports exchange of information and materials in cancer research between European countries and Japan, as cancer researches are most progressed in these European countries by incorporation of modern technology. At present, German-Japanese and French-Japanese collaborative programs in cancer research are supported by this project. We organize workshops on a particular topic every year in Japan or Europe. In 1988, the French-Japanese workshop was held at Pasteur Institute, Paris, on 25-27 July on human retroviruses, i. e. human T cell leukemia virus (HTLV) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) were discussed. The German-Japanese workshop (12-14 December 1988, Tokyo) was also focused on human tumor viruses especially human papilloma viruses. In 1989, the German-Japanese workshop "Molecular cellular aspects of carcinogenesis (2)" was held at Essen University, Essen, in which 9 scientists participated in from Japan. DNA repair was discussed at the French-Japanese workshop held in Kyoto on 20-22 November. In the 1990fiscal year, the French-Japanese Workshop was held at Pasteur Institute, Paris, on "Molecular mechanisms of tumor induction and suppression", in which 8 and 16 scientists are participated from Japan and France, respectively. The German-Japanese Workshop was organized by Prof. S. Asano of Institute of Medical Science, University of Tokyo, on 6-8 March 1991 in Tokyo. This workshop was focused on recent progress of the studies of cytokines and growth factors : 30 lectures were presented and about 60 audience attended. This program also sent one scientist to "Human Gene Mapping Workshop", 6-10 September 1990 at Oxford, England.
