Research Abstract |
Comparative Studies on Northern Cultures: In the two-year period (1988 through 1990), we had four meetings where we delivered research papers outlining current research status of each field of interest. Topics covered in this period range from an overview of Arctic-Subarctic cultures both in North America and Siberia to a very specific area of research such as cultural revitalization movements among the Sami in Scandinavia and a myth notifamong the Palaeo-Asians. Articles summarizing their research interests and incorporating comments and suggestions given at the meetings are published in the following book; Yoshinobu Kotani (ed.), 1990, Comparative Studies on Northern Cultures, Nagoya University. Contributors include T.Obayashi, H. Watanabe, S.Saito, K.Kato, K.Inoue, T.Irimoto, T.Tsumagari, K.Saito, S.Sasaki, H.Shoji, T. Yanada and Y.Kotani. PREPARATIONS FOR DATABASE OF ARTICLES ON THE AINU AND NORTHERN CULTURES (NCD): Ainu Database was prepared by the group of Hokkaido University staff members including Takashi Irimoto, Shinichiro Kuroda and Takako Yanada. This database is partially open to the public through the inter-university computer network. The other database, Northern Culture Database (NCD), was prepared at the Nagoya University by the group members including Yoshinobu Kotani, Shinji Saito and Koichi Inoue, and we plan to make this database open to the concerned researchers next fiscal year.
