Research Abstract |
This research aims at economical manufacturing of gears with accurate tooth profile, which have medium and high hardness, and also describes the surface durability of those gears. 1.Summary for the economical manufacturing of accurate gears; The development of the finishing hob made with new material which can finish the tooth profile accurately and smoothly is carried out; and the accuracy and tooth surface roughness of hobbed gears and the hob life are investigated by two kinds of examinations using the fly-tool and the hob. The fundamental tests using the fly-tool shows as follows;(l)The new cermet material is developed, that is suitable for improvement of the surface roughness and has good wear resistance. (2)The relationship among the land width, the hob wear and the tooth surface roughness is investigated. The land is a part of the cutting edge remained on the hob thread. Hobs can be manufactured accurately owing to existence of the land. (3)As a result of the investigation about a

pplication of the cermet tool to high hardness gear materials, the finish cutting is possible in low cutting speed of about 40 m/min. Hobbing tests of the medium hardness gear with the cermet finishing hob shows as follows; (1)The accuracy of the tooth profile is improved and few scratches on tooth surfaces exist, resulting in good surface roughness of about 1-3 micro-meter in maximum. (2)In the case of the cermet finishing hob with 0.1-0.2 mm land width, the accuracy of the module 6 gear is kept in 0 class of JIS. (3)The hob wear hardly influences the tooth surface roughness and the gear accuracy to the limit of flank wear width of about 0.25 mm included with the land. 2.Summary for the tooth surface durability of gears; The surface durability of the gears manufactured with the cermet finishing hob are investigated by using a power circulating-type gear testing machine. (1)The surface roughness of the cermet finish-hobbed gear is 2-3 micro-meter in maximum height, which is about one-fifth that of the gear made with the high speed steel hob. (2)The load carrying capacity of the cermet finish- hobbed gears increases by about four times in transmission load that of the gear hobbed with the high speed steel hob. Less
