Research Abstract

Appearance of sterilized eggs give much economical damage for seed production in the silkworm. Many studies have been carried out to resolve these problems and many points were declared. But much more issuestill remain to be done. So that author planed an following experiments to clear the mechanism for the appearance of sterilized eggs.
1) Sterilized eggs strain was crossed with tri-molting strain and made a many genetical combinations. In following generation, sterilized eggs product batches were investigated. As a result, it is speculated that sterilized gene localize on the six chromosome as well as tri-molting gene loci.
2) In order to investigate the relation to an appearance of sterilized eggs and egg components, amino acid, protein and fatty acid composition were investigated. There are some differences between sterilized and normal eggs in above substances. Sterilized eggs have much more than normal ones in isoleucine and aspartic acid and less in glutamic acid, alanine, methionine, lysine. Otherwise, in fatty acid composition, the former one has much less linolenic acid than later one.
3) Developments of gonad and its spermatids injected juvenile hormone were investigated by cell sorter. It was declared that juvenile hormone inhibited a development of the gonad and spermatids and control the G_1 stage in cell division.
From above results, I consider that appearance of sterilized eggs are controlled by the many genetical and non-genetical factors.
