Research Abstract |
A plane surface finishing apparatus was newly made in which the two dimensional motions of X and Y axes are controlled using two stepping motors. The plane finishing characteristics of various materials were clarified experimentally and the finishing mechanism was discussed. The results obtained in this study are as follows: 1. The suitable position installed of an electromagnetic coil and the design rules in magnetic circuit of construction component parts of finishing apparatus are made clear respectively by experiments. 2. The effects of various working factors, in special, magnetic flux density, circumferential speed of rotatory magnetic pole, working clearance, feed of workpiece, type of magnetic abrasive, thickness of workpiece, pass number of magnetic pole and material of workpiece, on finishing characteristics are examined experimentally. 3. It is confirmed that the value of 0.1mumRmax in surface roughness is obtained easily in a short finishing time by magnetic abrasive machining process. 4. The flatness of 2mum/*100mm is obtained in the finishing experiments of stainless steel plate. 5. The electrolytic-abrasive compound finishing process is investigated, and it is confirmed that the efficient finishing is realized by electrolytic action. 6. New various diamond magnetic abrasives are made by electroplating process and non-electro plating process respectively, and its finishing performances are examined. Next, the experiments concerning the free form surface finishing were performed. The results obtained are as follows: 7. A bench type finishing apparatus with tracer control system is newly made to finish free form surface and its finishing performance is examined. 8. The possibility of the application to free form surface finishing is confirmed by the finishing experiments using convex and concave surfaces.
