Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
During JFY2016, fabrication and testing of a first prototype optical system for a non-destructive Beam Induced Florescence proton beam profile monitor was successfully carried out. This system uses an MCP gated image intensifier coupled to a CID camera as a radiation-hard, high-resolution light detection system.
The light transport efficiency, resolution, and gain of the prototype optical system were measured and were found to approximately match expectations. Radiation-hardness testing of various components of the system has also begun - with shielding, so far no significant radiation-induced signal has been found coming from any component of the prototype optical system. Early design work for a camera readout system suitable for integration into the data-acquisition system currently in use for other monitors was also started.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
The project is progressing as expected. Now that a prototype optical system has been developed and tested, full development of a readout system and refinement of the optical system can progress.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
The research plan in JFY2017 is: 1. Continue tests of the new radiation hard optical system 2. Build mechanical structures for installing the optical system in situ 3. Design a new camera readout system suitable for BIF optical system integration into the current J-PARC neutrino beamline DAQ 4. Refine the optical system design and readout based on test results
