| Research Abstract |
地球最大の生物圏の可能性が高い海底下の微生物生命圏を支える原動力として、海底でのエネルギーや物質の循環を探ることは非常に重要である。海底下の流体の移流現象を陸域河川に匹敵する「海底下の大河」として捉えて、その影響を地質一化学一生命の多面相互作用として理解する領域研究の公募研究として、研究航海で採取する玄武岩変質試料を主な対象に、鉄と硫黄の地球化学を展開する。「大河」の流域に沿う試料を対象に、鉄及び硫黄の含有鉱物の鉱物種別の存在量・Fe^<3+>/Fe^<2+>比・鉄の同位体組成、硫酸塩/硫化物の鉱物別の硫黄の含有量及び硫黄の同位体組成を求める分析による多元的かつ高精度な地球化学データから、「海底下の大河」の鉄/硫黄のフラックスと鉄/硫黄代謝微生物活動を制約することを、主な研究目的とする。
平成21年度は、本研究費のサポートを受け、自身のラボにクリーンルームや酸分解蒸発乾固装置を設計・制作・導入して、「混酸分解と試料蒸発乾固を清浄かつ安全な準閉鎖環境で一貫して行えるシステム」を構築する基盤とした。最終年度である平成22年度は、(1)鉄の存在形態別分析ラインの構築および性能評価、(2)硫黄の存在形態別分析ライン(Kiba Solutionを用いた硫化物/硫酸塩の化学分離ライン)の構築、の構築および性能評価、などを行った。それぞれ、学生の卒業研究の課題として行った研究を含む。研究年度終了後の平成23年度には、各種の研究航海等で採取された、あるいは今後採取する予定の、「海底下の大河」関連の実試料の入手を計画しており、本研究費を受けて構築した分析ラインを用いた測定を、複数の学生の卒業研究あるいは修士論文研究の課題として与え、今後精力的にする予定である。
