Research Abstract

意思決定とは、複数の可能性のある選択肢から、ベストの行動を決定するという脳機能である。不確定要素の多い現代では、意思決定に迷うケースに、しばしば出くわす。その迷いに合わせて、私たちは、様々な適応行動をとる。例えば、もっと正確な情報を得るために、注意を高めたり、異なるソースを探したり、煮詰まるほどの迷いであれば、決断を遅らせたり、逃避することだってあろう。しかし、これまで、脳がどのように、意思決定における「迷い」を検知し、それをもとに、様々な適応行動につなげているのかというメカニズムについては、ほとんど分かっていない。
本年度は、サルをモデル動物として、意思決定のゆれを的確にとらえる系を確立した。その系を利用して、申請者は、視床において、その迷いの程度（確信度）をコードしている神経表現を見出し、その信号を使って、実際に、動物が逃避行動していることまで明らかにした。
