Outline of Annual Research Achievements

1) 国際拠点との合同ワークショップ:International Symposium on Artificial Intelligence and Brain Scienceを、2020年10月10-12日、コロナ禍のためオンラインで開催した。MITのJosh Tenenbaum教授、UCLのKarl Friston教授をコオーガナイザーとし、Turing賞を受賞したYann LeCun博士、AlphaGoの開発者David Silver博士ら国内外、領域内の研究者26名を講師として迎え、1807名の参加登録のもと、ビデオ発表とライブ討論を行った。
2)先進的研究グループとの若手研究者の派遣・招聘:コロナ禍のため学生、研究者の海外相互派遣は実施できなかった。
3)国際会議、出版、インターネットによる情報発信:ウェブサイトに国際シンポジウムの特設ページ(http://www.brain-ai.jp/symposium2020/)を設け、宣伝に活用するとともに、開催後には講師の許可を得た発表ビデオが聴講できるようにした。国際シンポジウムでの議論をもとに、Neural Networks誌の特集号Artificial Intelligence and Brain Scienceを、Doya, Friston, Sugiyama, Tenenbaumをゲストエディターとして企画し、64件の投稿を受け査読編集作業を進めている。

Reason

コロナ禍により海外との往来は不可能になったものに、国際シンポジウムはオンライン化により当初の目標の500名を上回る参加を得ることができた。また、海外出張はできなくなったが、多数のオンライン会議で領域の成果を世界に発信することができた。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

Neural Networks誌の特集号Artificial Intelligence and Brain Scienceの査読編集作業を継続し、2022年夏までの出版をめざす。
コロナ禍による渡航制限が緩和されるにともない、中止していた研究者の派遣・招聘を繰越予算により実施する。
