Outline of Final Research Achievements |
We studied the neural mechanism of affective/motivational responses, especially those underlying neural circuits and value-coding mechanisms. We developed a novel method for dissecting specific neural circuits in behaving monkeys, identifying the specific role of distinct front-subcortical circuits in value-based decision-making. Using this method, we also identified the neural circuit for value judgement and emotional processing. Regarding the identification of texture attributes that affect specific emotional responses, we found a life-prolonging effect of the complexity of environmental information containing natural environmental sounds recorded in tropical rain forests and the effect is mediated by reduction of social stress. We also characterized asymmetric information processing in dark/brightness which might be involved in the preference of brightness and vividness.
