Outline of Final Research Achievements

In this research, subjects with a consensus (eight at a time) stayed in the Isolation and Confinement Facility at the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) for two weeks, being added load of tight schedule with simulated science experiments as well as confinement like a space flight. Blood and saliva samples were examined before, during and after the event, exploring new stress markers with which damages due to confinement stress can be assessed objectively. Gene expression pattern changes specific to the stay in the confinement facility were investigated. Stress marker gene candidates were examined that would enable us to evaluate stress with and without reduction in physical activities associated with the stay in the confinement facility.
