Outline of Final Research Achievements

In this study, we have developed state-of-the-art animal-borne loggers (e.g., AI on board video-loggers) and collected behavioral big data of seabirds and fish in the field to reveal their migration behavior and construct new statistical and machine learning models.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

世界で初めて人工知能をバイオロギングデバイスに搭載したことにより、限られたバッテリーを効果的に用いる知的な計測が可能になった。今や世界的に用いられるようになった動物観測手法であるバイオロギングの計測能力の底上げに大きく貢献した。また、構築した統計モデルや機械学習モデルによって、野生動物の移動予測が可能になったため、生態系を考慮した風力発電設置計画などへの適用が期待できる。
